Primary Thoughts
Ahmed - Theres two takeaways, its wants to provide a necessary meaning to the arts outside of science or techonology. Maybe its out of self interest, maybe its more genuine than that. It could also be more about how human beings generate and develop compassions. When poetry has the same structure or composition as a human does for compassion, it sort of appeals to that capacity or emotion.

- What he's saying is that we achieve that level of compassion through art and poetry.
rebuttal
- Humans are irrational creatures, and are inherently greedy. YOu can surely be compassionate, etc, but only when there is some kind of linkage to human benefits. Pro-environment policy, or activism, they are often most successful when pining against the other actors which take away from human benefits (oil industry, etc.)

The goal of the course is to give practice in identifying new ethical issues that arise in society.
I emphasize practice because its a lot like practicing a sport.

Assignments
Ethics in news assignment is 40% of our grade.
civic engagement project. Where you go and do a real thing out in the world. teach people the things you do in the class so they can use it out in the world. Submit an actual letter to a regularatory body.
we want to make sure that everyone in the group learns from the entire project. The subject of the final exam will be the project that we submitted.
Groups of 5, you should know all 5 ppls work.
its an exam on our own work. at the end of RRR week, you submit a portfolio with all of the work you did over the semester.
those are the three assignments.
If you are taking the class PNP, you need at least 70% for a pass.
