Notes on Milk Process

Jennie Says I dont see if we can be able to get enough people to supply milk to the factory if they have it. Maybe during the rainy season, its easy to get milk, but during the dry season, theres no milk, and it wouldnt work!

Other guy says a few months ago, there was a demonstration of women in one of the villages, and they demanded a milk processing unit, or factory, theres a lot of other things you can do, and that can employ 1000, 2000 maasai women.

Another Guy Says He wanted to add the importance of milk processing, having that something like milk processing unit, it can even give us men confidence that our women, our wives can generate a stable income.

We need to focus on milk processing, because the lowest income members of the community are women, meaning that this process would provide so much more access for the community.

Notes on Cow Fattening

  1. buy cows when theyre really cheap, in a specific season
  2. invest in feed, and fatten the cow, over the next 3 to 6 months
  3. sell the cow during the holiday season when theyre more expensive.
  4. a cow that typically is purchased for 500,000 can be sold for 800,000 and cover the cost of the feed for the cow entirely, plus some profit.
  5. cows are sold in the city to butchershops, not to other maasai

Notes on Farming

Initially we said, just say something, or just mention or discuss some of the ideas that help the entire community. Creating groups for loans, are helping us for livestock for fattening, if you wanna do farming with high quality seeds, loans are important throughout. lets stay focused on loans or seed production or something else, or cows for fattening, then we better stay focused. Cuz once you have a group.

for instance if theres 5,000,000 Tshs as a group, than any member of the group can access those funds for purchasing anything, be it seeds, or a cow or equipment?

Risk Assessment

Group 1: Group Loans

Investment Return Risks
1,000,000: Group Loans

For cow fattenting, if provided 20 cows, they can buy the 20 cows with 16,000,00 Tshs but after 6 months, they can sell these cows and return 20 million, so 4 million in returns after 1

for milk, we dont know the costs refridgeration and processing

Group 2: Cow Fattening

Investment Return Risks
Livestock fattening:

initial investment of
25,000,000 Tshs or more

50 x 800,000 per cow for purchasing purchase

= 40,000,000 Tshs
return 2.5M every 6 months

50 x 1,000,000 =

50,000,000 revenue
cow might die, not common but might happen

sometimes the cow can become weak because of disease or something like that

thats all

Group 3: Maasai Hike

Investment Return Risks
Group Investment
for instance, a group of 5 people, will be given 10,000,000

for instance, one person can use 2m Tshs to buy 3 calfs, and in this amount can be

for each of those calves, after 12 months, you can sell them for 1.2 million tshs
will be required per person to return 9% interest, so 180k shillings

Group 4: Milk Processing

its not very different from the previous group and previous group discussed. Maybe the profit for them will be for 12 months. this 50 millions can produce 3 millions, another thing is milk processing, theyve got an intial investment, which is cows, whoch makes it
